9 QOs headed to Cookworthy Forest on 23rd October to participate in the Devon OC league.
This Forestry Commission area, previously used as a JK venue, is mixed forestry with some open areas and plenty of drainage ditches and remains of walls. There were also a lot of uncrossable areas of fallen trees felled during last winter’s storms.
On Brown, Pete @Pete and Phil @daylightgambler both had good runs coming in 2nd and 4th (with Devon’s Ben Perry sandwiched between) and earnt their highest British Orienteering ranking points to date. Jeff @Jeff.Pakes, initially put off by a rushed start, maintained a consistent pace for most of the course coming in 9th.
On Blue, returner to the club Brian had a good run, finishing in 5th. Tony finished 9th on Green. Roger @craddocktaunton had two difficult controls on Short Green coming 9th, with Karen @KarenLewis ahead in 7th.
Oliver had a good run in Light Green - leading until a mistake at control 9 put him into 3rd place overall, and Annabel came 6th on Orange.
