Nine juniors travelled to the SWOA Yvette Baker Competition Preliminary Round at Newent Forest in Gloucestershire last Sunday.
Only one other club took part in the ‘small club’ competition, and they beat us by 1 point.
For many of our juniors this was there first taste of a Regional event in a difficult area in very muddy conditions. Fortunately, they had had a training session with Richard Sansbury, Ray Toomer, and Vikki Page the previous weekend at the different levels.
Finley Goddard, Jack Parish, and Deeyana Jaradat scored maximum points with Olli Lewis, and Martha Macpherson making up the rest of the team score. Annabelle Lewis, Tom Maybank, and Hamish Braine-Clarke also scored, but only the top five scores count in the Shield competition.
Many thanks to the parents for car-sharing and supporting the team. Hopefully we can organise a coaching scheme for next Autumn to go alongside the JOGs so we will cross the line ahead next time!
