Brighton City Race 2025

As we were due to travel up to London for a Christmas visit to relatives Rosie and I found this weekend event as a diversion along the way. The event, organised by Southdown Orienteers had taken place for many years but had, according to the club, run its course a couple years ago and was subsequently dropped from their calendar. However, there was enough enthusiasm to try it again this year and it was a first for us. The weekend consisted a park sprint on the Saturday afternoon followed by the main urban (after nightfall) on the same evening. To round the weekend off there was then a middle distance forest event on the Sunday morning using a parkland wooded area just north of the town.
As neither of us had visited Brighton for many years, we decided to forego the sprint event in favour of a bit of a touristy day in and around the seafront area. This turned out to be a great decision as, for late December, the weather was gorgeous- sunny and warm. There’s a continuous improved path/roadway that runs under the cliffs Eastwards to Rottingdean and beyond towards Eastbourne that makes a popular but lovely walk with plenty of cafe opportunities along the way- our route there and back was about 13km so made for a good warm up for the evening’s fun yet to come.
